Little man growing strong

A little catch up on the essentials of Wyatt.
Wyatt at 4 months...
  • weighs 16 lb, 6 oz. (80th percentile)
  • is 27 inches long. (97th percentile)
  • has a head circumference of 17.25 cm. (87th percentile)

  • is willing to do tummy time for a few minutes with the occasional roll from tummy to back.
  • has celebrated his first Easter.
  • is intrigued by his exersaucer but not sure what to do with it.
  • really basically hates being horizontal for more than a few minutes.
  • is pretty good at grabbing things and handing them from one hand to the other.
  • has participated in a teacher rally, wearing red with the masses.
At five months...Wyatt...

  • LOVES his stroller rides MOST of the time.
  • is sleeping with one arm out of the swaddle because he...
  • has found his thumb which means he...
  • can fall asleep on his own AND...
  • is sleeping from approximately 7:30 to 7:30 with generally one feeding!! Sleep is happening for all of us and we are all better people for it!
  • has discovered his tongue.
  • has started rolling from back to tummy and then getting very angry because he's forgotten how to go tummy to back.
  • has celebrated my first Mother's Day by going to his first Mariners game (we won!)

I wish I were a snow bird

First, take a second to appreciate Wyatt's early morning smiles.  I mean, he almost can't scrunch his red, little, smiley face any happier.  This all because he's well rested and got a glimpse of Daddy! He slept really well on vacation.

Grandpa and Wyatt with matching hair!

After Vegas (back in March) we crammed our stroller, rock 'n play, yoga ball, oversized suitcases, down jackets...into the car with Nate's parents, Earl and Ann and drove with them back to Apache Junction near Mesa, Arizona.  They normally live in Spokane but are snow birds and stay in a quiet mobile/RV park from October ish to April ish give or take some important holidays. We had fun going to a performance by a family of musicians, eating some good southwestern food and, as always, playing a round of cards or two. This time in  Arizona I realized something...

I think I'd like to be part-time snow bird...

Don't get me wrong...

I want to experience the best the PNW has to offer in the winter.  Like the one beautiful snow day where everyone makes snowmen and igloos out of practically nothing and school gets shut down and we all bundle up and crunch into the fresh, barely cover the grass snow and march back home and make fires and drink hot cocoa even though it's warmed up to 45 degrees by 3 in the afternoon.  Also, I love the the bluer than blue 55 degree weather that we'd like everyone else in the world to believe doesn't exist EVER in Western WA. I even enjoy some good ol' non-stop rain for awhile because I am a true (suburb of) Seattlite who knows how to throw on a rain coat, skip the umbrella and just keep sloshing on through the puddles.

But..

There is just something about dry desert warmth in the middle of winter.  The swimming, the still being in shorts and tank tops late into the evening, the cacti, the cool, fruity cocktails while sitting outside, the slow-down, it's summer kind of feeling when it's actually not.

One month a year, I'd like to be a snow bird.

We visited our friends, Tyler and Beatrice and their two kiddos in Arizona and even got to go to Layla's 2 year old Minnie Mouse themed birthday party.  Their little dude is almost 7 months in this picture and Wyatt is only 3 months. We've got a big baby on our hands!
